stay gold

by Rachel Lynch

The sun shone through on those early spring days. Left us in a song, wide-eyed haze. It's rays were like gold. I've woken up in your bed, having no idea what or where I am. I always knew that I was young, but with a pseudo-intellectual daze, I can fool most anyone. Oh and the streets of New York City sure look pretty from way up here. And I always though that you'd be here. But shit gets fucked and people just disappear. So honey, now don't be that mad, time has told me that it's just not that bad. And these are the tides, the immovable destiny we can never alter. Studio apartment blues, just bad news. No matter how cleverly we may have sheltered it, our little love was never going to stay gold. We were bound to reach a dead end, and that was painfully clear.

But this heavy heart of mine never fails to bring me right back to the ability to love who I love when I have them. That's all you can do, really. Let them go when you must. If you know how to love, then you'll never run out.

Stay gold.
