I've been away for two weeks now. It's been a series of high highs and low lows, but I suppose that's how trips go. There are things that are out of your control, and then there are things that take your breath away.
We spent the first five days of our trip in Rio de Janeiro. We stayed on the Copacabana beach, but came to like Ipanema better. We saw museums filled with art and science, and it was very clear that Brazilians are concerned with the future of the natural world. We ate tons of delicious food, and Brazil even had me eating meat. I read a book by the beach, and even did some writing. I became very introspective in brazil, a bit sad and contemplative. New places often do this to me.
The trip really became worthwhile when we flew to Bariloche on Christmas Day. I'm more of a mountains than a beach girl, and it's very apparent. Nothing sets my heart more free than a long trail run. I feel close to God (source.) I was born to be out there. Our hotel in Bariloche, Argentina was like a huge luxury cabin, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. It was so close to so many trails, and was set up high in the middle of the mountains. It was absolutely divine.
After four nights in the mountains, we flew to Buenos Aires for New Years. I really vibed with this city, it had more of a "New York" feel to it, I suppose. Shopping was challenging, so we spent most of our time exploring and seeing all that we could see. We had a big dinner very late every night, and I enjoyed setting up magical photos in our hotel. I got to meet a local from instagram, Mariana. She's a fashion photographer, and we spent the last day of the year together. I learned so much just talking to her, she spoke three languages. We talked about how the entire world serves english-speakers comfort, and how english-speakers need to make a better effort to learn.
The last evening of the year, I drank some champagne and then woke up early the next day for a run through the city. Buenos Aires is a beautiful city for running, and I would for sure come back for a marathon.
Traveling for such a long time makes you uncomfortable, it takes you away from your comforts and your left with your thoughts and yourself. This can be terrifying, and it can be manageable. I loved creating art and photographers wherever I went, although I didn't bring enough clothes.
I'm back home now, and almost find it too soon to reflect on this experience. Perhaps, it will conclude itself later and inspire something unexpected in this new year.
